Chelsea to make a third bid for Leicester City star Wesley Fofana
According to a series of tweets from Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Chelsea will table another offer for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana this week. The first two bids were rejected and the Blues won’t offer any player swap following internal discussions.
The opening Chelsea bid for the defender was made for around £60m and was soundly rejected by Leicester. Brendan Rodgers went on to categorically state that the player is not for sale. The second bid was for around £70m and that too was not entertained by the Foxes.
The good news for the Blues, as mentioned in the Ben Jacobs tweet, is that the 21-year-old wants the move. This shall act as a helping hand to further persuade Leicester into accepting an offer in order to sell him in the coming weeks.
Fofana has been very vocal about how he wants to be the best defender in the world and force his way into the French national team squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. A move to Chelsea will certainly elevate his standing in the game.
He made an excellent start to his Leicester career before suffering a nasty leg injury in a 2021 pre-season game against Villarreal that kept him out for more than six months. As a result of that, the Frenchman made only 12 appearances in all competitions last season.
Although Chelsea have signed Kalidou Koulibaly and extended Cesar Azpilicueta’s stay, they could do with another body in central defence. Fofana could be an ideal backup to Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva in two positions across the back three.

For the player’s sake as well, it would be ideal if he joins a Champions League playing club to attract interest for possibly getting selected for France in this year’s World Cup squad.
