Transfer News: 26-year-old star drops interesting hint over Chelsea return

Andreas Christensen has dropped an interesting hint about returning to Chelsea

According to Football.London, former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, who signed a four-year deal with Barcelona this summer, has dropped an interesting hint that he could return with the Blues before the end of this transfer window.

Even though Barcelona signed the Denmark international, the financial troubles of the Spanish giants mean the player is facing an uncertain future in Catalan. As per a report in ESPN (h/t Football.London), Xavi’s men could lose Christensen if they fail to register him before Saturday’s La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano.

With the deadline for the 26-year-old to be registered being just two days away, he has dropped a hint on social media, changing his profile picture and deleting posts on Instagram of him signing for Barcelona. Currently, the defender has his profile picture of him with a Champions League-winning medal in a Chelsea shirt.

Christensen made 34 appearances in all competitions last season, and was one of the key members of the squad. He played a massive role in the Blues’ Champions League-winning run in 2020/21, including 50-odd minutes in the final and playing both the legs of the semi-final from the start.

Since coming back from his two-year loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017, the Chelsea youth star has progressed well as a player of the first team at Stamford Bridge.

Although his game contains defensive weaknesses, the 26-year-old is still a quality player whose best years as a footballer is in front of him. It would be interesting to know what Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel will do if given a chance to sign him back.

From the Blues’ viewpoint, they could do with an extra body in the central defensive position. Thiago Silva is 37 now and will not go on forever. So, if given an opportunity to sign, it will be good to get Christensen back.

More Chelsea News:

Chelsea’s defensive issues started this summer when Christensen joined Rudiger in leaving the club on a free transfer. Who better to replace the Denmark international than the player himself? It remains to be seen, however, if Barcelona will fail to register him and Franck Kessie.

It’s unwise to think that they won’t exercise every possible measure to make sure the duo play for Barcelona this season.
