Chelsea face added Manchester City hurdle in the race to sign Bundesliga full-back

Transfer News: Manchester City have joined Chelsea in the race for Borna Sosa

Manchester City are said to have joined Chelsea in the race for VfB Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa. This is according to BILD (h/t Sun), who claims that City are also interested in the 24-year-old.

City’s interest comes amidst claims that they may sell their current left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal. Chelsea could be in the market for a left-back as they fear Marcos Alonso may leave the club for Barcelona.

Sosa joined the German outfit in 2018 from Dinamo Zagreb and has the eye with a series of impressive displays. Stuttgart are believed to be ready to cash in on him and would accept offers of around £21million for him.

The Croatian left-back was impressive last season as he scored one goal and notched up 8 assists to help his side avoid relegation. His impressive performances have caught the eye of a few clubs with Bayern Munich and Barcelona also said to be in the fray for the 24-year-old.

Ben Chilwell has returned from his horrific injury and is expected to be the starter at left-back for the Blues. Alonso, who lost his place to Chilwell has been linked with a move to Barcelona. This leaves Tuchel with Emerson Palmieri and Abdul-Rahman Baba as the choices in his ranks.

Both the players spent their last season on loan and it is very unlikely that they will feature in Tuchel’s plan for next season. And given Chilwell’s record of injury, an alternate option will be required for him and Sosa fits that bill perfectly.

The 24-year-old can also play as a left-midfielder when required. His assists numbers last season suggest that he likes to deliver the ball in the box, something that suits Tuchel’s style of play. The left-back will also have no problem playing with a back-three system as he is already adapted to it at Stuttgart.

With City joining the race for him, it will be tough for Chelsea to land the player. Tuchel should consider making a move for him before City have the chance. He would prove to be an ideal signing and could prove tough competition for Chilwell.
