Journo claims Chelsea are interested in signing bitter rivals’ star striker

Transfer News: Chelsea are interested in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane

Chelsea are said to be interested in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, according to journalist Christian Falk of BILD on Twitter.

He adds that Chelsea feel Spurs would, however, prefer to sell their star man to a foreign club like Bayern Munich rather than to an English rival. The German giants are rumoured to be interested in the English striker.

The Blues are in need of a striker and they have identified one from their arch-rival’s roster. However, it remains to be seen if Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici ever agree to sell their star player to strengthen a direct rival.

Kane made the headlines last season when he tried to force a move to Manchester City. The Manchester club was close to sealing the deal for the Englishman before it collapsed in the end. The club ended their interest in the striker and Spurs were able to avail his services for another season.

The 28-year-old had a dip in form in the starting stages of last season but still managed to end the season with 17 goals in 37 league games for Spurs.

Such numbers would be considered terrific for any other striker but Kane can and has done better than that in the past. His current contract runs till 2024 and now, he has gained the attention of a rival club.

Chelsea have been disappointing in front of goal since the second half of last season. Despite having signed Raheem Sterling, they have not improved as evident from their pre-season tour of the States. Should they manage to get Kane, it could be the coup of the summer.

He has established himself as one of the best number nines in the league and the world. The England international has accumulated some fantastic numbers for himself having scored a whopping 247 goals in 385 appearances for Spurs in all competitions.

Fans would be skeptical that Tottenham will consider any potential bid for Kane from a direct rival. Chelsea have signed two high-profile strikers in back-to-back summers in Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku.

While the latter has failed to convince consistently in front of goal, the latter has sealed a season-long loan deal at Inter Milan this summer.
