Report: German giants plan to pay huge wages to 22-year-old Chelsea target

Transfer News: Bayern Munich to make Chelsea target Matthijs de Ligt a high earner

According to @Plettigoal via @iMiaSanMia [h/t Football.London], Bayern Munich are set to make Chelsea target Matthijs de Ligt one of the highest-paid players in Munich if they sign him.

Chelsea have not had it easy at all in their pursuit of de Ligt, with Bayern Munich in the race for the talented Dutchman. The player is also keen on a switch to Munich and hence it is evident that Chelsea have a task on their hands.

De Ligt supposedly earns €9-10M net per year at Turin right now but he is set to receive a huge bump if he moves to Munich and joins Bayern. The Dutchman would earn something around €17-19M gross per year if he joins the Bundesliga giants.

This would make the former Ajax man one of the best-paid players in Munich and for a club that is careful and smart with its finances, it shows how much Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern want to sign the talented Juventus defender.

It does not seem outlandish that Bayern are willing to make him a high earner and Chelsea must do so too if they are serious about signing him. After all, de Ligt is one of the best young defenders in Europe and deserves a pay raise.

De Ligt joined Juventus from Ajax in 2019 on the back of a very impressive season with the Amsterdam club. After initially struggling to adapt to Italian football, he has slowly yet surely become one of Serie A’s best defenders in the past couple of seasons.

Signing the Dutchman would just be perfect for Chelsea. He could be an ideal replacement for outgoing defenders for the Blues and can be a natural leader in the backline for many years to come.

A huge summer awaits the Blues and until now, not much business has happened in terms of incoming yet. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have left the club and signing new centre-backs is the need of the hour. The Blues need to get down to business as soon as possible.

If Chelsea are keen on signing De Ligt, they must go all out for him. It seems like Bayern Munich are well ahead in the race for De Ligt but things could turn very quickly and the Blues will be hoping this one turns in their favour.
