Blues interested in blockbuster acquisition but Tuchel will have the final say

Thomas Tuchel holds the deciding vote on Chelsea signing Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea – this could be the headline act of this summer transfer window, but the Blues are at a crossroads now. Do they need a headliner, or will they stay true to their system?

The 37-year-old has already communicated to Manchester United that he wants to leave, should the right offer arrive for him.

Having arrived only a year ago, United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League coupled with Ronaldo’s desire to maintain his 19-year-streak of playing in Europe’s premier club competition has created a difference between the two parties which seems beyond repair now.

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has already met with Chelsea co-owner, and it’s believed that a move for Ronaldo has already been discussed.

However, the Boehly-Clearlake administration does not want to force any unwanted players on Tuchel and according to The Guardian, Chelsea’s final decision on whether to pursue Ronaldo or not rests in the hands of their main man in the dugout.

Chelsea signed Romelu Lukaku last term, and the Belgian’s struggle to adapt to Tuchel’s high-pressing system is one of several reasons why that move turned into a disaster. Ronaldo isn’t known for his high pressing either and at 37, it’s unlikely to change.

Should Tuchel give the green light for Ronaldo?

Ronaldo’s goal-scoring record is phenomenal and borderline unbelievable. He has everything required and more, to be an instant fix for Chelsea’s attacking woes. He is a fantastic finisher, so maybe he can be utilised as a target man.

However, it may come at the price of affecting Chelsea’s overall gameplay just to fit Ronaldo into the mould. Is that a risk Tuchel is willing to take?
