“It’s his job”- Thomas Tuchel slammed for his comments after Chelsea’s 4-0 loss to Arsenal

Craig Burley has slammed Thomas Tuchel for his comments following defeat to Arsenal in pre-season friendly

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has slammed Thomas Tuchel over his comments following the club’s 4-0 defeat to Arsenal in their pre-season friendly.

The Gooners ran riot as they comfortably beat a helpless Chelsea side last weekend. Tuchel was clearly not happy with his team’s performance and questioned the commitment of his players and said that his side may not be ready for their opening Premier League game.

Now, Burley has slammed Tuchel while speaking to ESPN (h/t Metro) saying that he has got a problem with Tuchel’s attitude and that it is his job.

“I know he’s lost some players, they’ve brought some in, they might bring some more in. But I’ve got a problem with that attitude. Don’t tell Chelsea fans they might not be ready for the start of this season, tell me whose job it is. It’s his job.”

Both the clubs named a strong line-up with Arsenal probably naming the line they will be using the most next season. Timo Werner led the line with Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz. Jorginho and Conor Gallagher partnered up in the middle of the park with Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah at the back.

From the very first minute, Arsenal put pressure on Chelsea and were able to score within 15 minutes of the first half. The Blues lacked motivation and goal threat and were clearly outplayed by what appeared to be a strong Arsenal team.

The second half followed and Tuchel made some changes. But that made no difference. They conceded two goals in each half and ended their United States pre-season in the worst way. The only positive was the debut of Kalidou Koulibaly, who showed what an important signing he could turn out to be.

What stood out was that Chelsea clearly lacked a proper number nine. This is something Tuchel will have to address before the new season. Burley’s and Tuchel’s remarks are correct in their own way. But a manager cannot afford to lose his faith in his team just before the season starts.
