Chelsea to decide the future of Armando Broja amid Newcastle United interest

According to @Scottwilsonecho as tweeted by @Chels_HQ (h/t Football.London), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is set to take a decision on the future of Armando Broja next week.

The Albanian striker, who spent the 2021/22 season on loan with Southampton has emerged as one of the best young strikers in the Premier League. His performances for the Saints’ have caught the attention of several English clubs, who are now keeping tabs on him.

The Cobham graduate played 38 games for Ralph Hassenhautl’s squad, contributing one assist and nine goals across all competitions. The Chelsea forward has kind of tailed off at the conclusion of the season after a really strong start to the campaign.

Although there are calls for Thomas Tuchel to offer the Albanian target man a shot in the first squad next season, Premier League clubs’ interest may prompt the Blues to change their minds.

He was already attracting interest from West Ham United to begin with. Newcastle United now believes they are in a better position to win the contest. Thomas Tuchel is set to make a decision this week regarding Broja’s participation in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States.

While there is no denying Broja’s potential, it is unclear whether Chelsea will decide to sell him this summer. It is noteworthy to mention, that in spite of Tammy Abraham’s performance under Frank Lampard, the Englishman was sold to AS Roma last year.

After his great performances while out on loan, the Albanian deserves to at the very least be given an opportunity to show himself throughout the preseason before a decision is made on his future. A decent place to start would be the preseason.

Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have also struggled to convert their opportunities this season, contributing to Chelsea’s goal-scoring difficulties. The Blues have occasionally been pushed by this to rely on other places for goals this season.

A place in the Chelsea team for a target man has become available given that the Belgian has already left the club. The Blues may choose to support Armando Broja as the player, but if they don’t, they may need to hunt for a striker on the market.

The future of Armando Broja is still uncertain. Chelsea may consider him a sellable asset at the right price, but they must be careful not to make the same error they did with Tammy Abraham.
