Chelsea have keen on Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have entered the race to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries after falling short in their pursuits of Jules Kounde and De Ligt.
During the current transfer window, Chelsea have so far added two significant players to its squad. Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly were acquired from Manchester City and Napoli, respectively and should play a significant role next season.
Before the transfer window enters crunch time, the Blues will want to strengthen their squad further. It appears they are looking for a new right-back given the persistent rumours linking Cesar Azpilicueta to a transfer to Barcelona.
Inter defender Dumfries has not emerged as a potential transfer target for Chelsea. It is believed that the London giants are keeping an eye on the 26-year-old, who could be tempted to depart the Nerazzurri this summer in search of a more competitive club.
Last season, Dumfries played 45 times for Inter in all competitions, contributing to 12 goals. However, Raoul Bellanova has recently excelled for the Nerazzurri, endangering the Dutchman’s position on the team.
The Dutch international is a quick footballer with exceptional wing bombing ability. The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have expressed interest in him as a result of his performances at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Dumfries is nearing his prime and still has several years left at the highest level. The Dutchman, a pacy player who enjoys attacking, will give the Chelsea lineup another dimension.
The Dutchman’s addition would provide competition to Reece James. The Cobham star is one of the best young players in his position but could do with another player keeping him on his toes.

James might a;sp shift to the centre-back position as a result, which is where Chelsea are currently lacking. However, that might not be an ideal solution given that the Englishman has performed extraordinarily from the right-back spot.
The club will need to enter the market again before the start of the season to find a new centre-back though as the Kounde negotiations have failed and De Ligt has already joined Bayern Munich. It remains to be seen what the club decides.
