Chelsea could drop their interest in Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong
According to Sport (h/t Mirror), Chelsea will not make a move for talented Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong until Spanish club Barcelona lower their demands for the talented 25-year-old.
Barcelona are looking to actively sell Frenkie de Jong this summer with the player being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. However, the player does not seem too keen on a move to the Red Devils and hence the transfer is stalling.
Chelsea are really interested in signing the talented midfielder with Thomas Tuchel keen on a move for the Barcelona man but the Blues are unlikely to get into any sort of negotiations for the player until the Spanish club reduce their asking demands.
It is being claimed that the Spanish giants are demanding a £67million fee for their prized asset and Chelsea are not willing to work on those terms. They will want to get de Jong for a much lower fee if they are to land him ahead of this season.
Frenkie de Jong is one of the best midfielders in the world and on his day, he can be absolutely unplayable. One of the most talented players that Barcelona have at the moment, it is highly unlikely that the Spanish club will lower their demands for their player.
De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has since then gone on to become a world-class midfielder. He has a long-term contract with the Spanish giants and does not seem keen on leaving and hence this could be a difficult negotiation for the Blues.
The Dutchman does not apparently want a move to Man United since they cannot offer him Champions League football and that is something where we hold an advantage over our Premier League rivals. The Blues are in the coveted competition and that could tip the scales in our favour.
If Chelsea are really keen on signing the player, they must get serious and be willing to shell out the big bucks to sign de Jong. He will be a player who is definitely worth all the money and we will be getting a midfielder for many years to come.
