Romano: La Liga giants notify Chelsea defender their intention of signing him

Fabrizio Romano: Barcelona notify Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta about transfer plan

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona have told Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta that they would sign the Spaniard within the coming few weeks.

In 2012, the 32-year-old player left French club Marseille to join Chelsea. The defender was named club captain in 2019 and currently has 474 games under his belt for the Blues. A one-year automatic extension that was triggered earlier this year means that his Chelsea deal expires in 2023.

The experienced defender is a target for Barcelona this summer as he has been admired by the Catalan side. It is believed that the La Liga team have now confirmed to Azpilicueta that they intend to sign him.

Additionally, Romano has stated that in regards to the transfer of defender Sergino Dest, nothing has progressed between Chelsea and Barcelona.

Given Chelsea’s recent defensive exodus, Thomas Tuchel might not be prepared to part ways with the Spaniard just yet. There haven’t been any new signings for the German tactician at the back, leaving only Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Malang Sarr.

Jules Kounde could be slipping away from Chelsea’s gasp every passing day and this might create another issue for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge when. Chelsea has not yet made a signing under the new ownership, and they are having trouble keeping players.

Despite several transfer rumours to the contrary, Tuchel has not yet used the transfer war chest he apparently received.

Everyone at the club will be hopeful that a workable solution can be found for this issue. A new era ushers in certain changes, and it appears that this one will bring one that will be difficult to accept.
