Brazilian ace commits future to Real Madrid amid Chelsea interest

Vinicius Jr. signs new Real Madrid deal shutting down Chelsea interest

Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. has shut down any potential rumours on his future and is set to commit his future to the 14-time European Champions by signing a new deal, snubbing interest from Chelsea as well as arch-rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Liverpool Echo) had reported earlier that Vinicius is on the verge of signing a new contract, That has now been confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has shed more detail.

Vinicius’ new contract will run until 2027, one year more than originally planned. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is believed to be behind the decision to extend the planned duration, in a bid to avoid any complications in the future.

Since joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, Vinicius has gone from strength to strength. The first couple of seasons had been rough for the then-teenage sensation but he has found his feet since and is developing nicely.

Now 21, Vinicius is already a hero at the Bernabeu and his initial struggles now seem very distant. The Brazilian scored 22 goals across all competitions last season – his most productive campaign in a Real Madrid shirt by a country mile, helping the club win their 35th La Liga and an unprecedented 14th Champions League.

Inevitably, it was Vinicius who scored the winner on that famous night in Paris, and his contributions are now set to be duly rewarded.

Big blow for Chelsea?

Not so much, although it has nothing to do with Vinicius or his ability. It’s just that the Brazilian has never seemed like a priority for Chelsea, who have so far been focused mostly elsewhere in the transfer market.

Although there has been interest from SW6, it didn’t necessarily translate to intent. As far as intentions go, the Blues seem way more focused on Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, who is on the hunt for regular club football.

Vinicius on the other hand has never seemed unsettled at Real Madrid, Rather, he has a sense of gratitude towards the La Liga giants for identifying his talent and giving him a chance to shine in European football at such a young age.

It makes no sense for Chelsea to even attempt a deal for the Brazilian. Even if there was no contract renewal, a deal for Vinicius was likely to command astronomical money, and that’s exactly the kind of deal the Blues should be refraining from, especially for a player who has no Premier League experience.
