Chelsea given huge transfer boost in pursuit of Neymar; PSG exit very likely

Transfer News: Neymar set to leave PSG with Chelsea interested

According to Le Parisien via Get French Football News (h/t football.london), it is now a ‘given’ Neymar will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The Brazilian is no longer comfortable at the club and the French side is open to selling him for the right price.

Neymar is apparently a poor influence on other players in terms of behaviour. And players closest to the Brazilian, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes have left or could potentially leave.

Neymar moved to PSG from Barcelona in the summer of 2017 for a fee worth £200million. The former Barcelona and Santos man has played a total of 144 games for the French side scoring 100 goals and assisting another 60.

Now the 30-year-old could possibly leave the French capital with England’s capital being the possible destination. And a potential move to Chelsea could be on the cards.

A sensible signing?

Chelsea have yet to make a signing this summer. Thomas Tuchel has the task of revamping his squad following the departure of a number of first-team players such as Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Romelu Lukaku.

There was a lack of goal threat last season from the Blues and Tuchel will be aware of such a problem. The Blues could kill two birds with one stone here- strengthen their attack that was inconsistent last season and make the first headline signing to start the Todd Boehly era.

Tuchel managed Neymar at PSG and the two would be familiar to each other. In the German, the PSG star would have a boss who knows about his strengths and weaknesses well.

Neymar could prove to be another Lukaku for Chelsea.

PSG, meanwhile, would like to earn some money from his sale, considering the money they spent to buy him. At 30 years old, Neymar is still one of the top players in the world, but it remains to be seen if he is still at the level which he showed during his time at Camp Nou.

Spending money and paying huge wages each week just for a namesake star would not be so wise on Chelsea’s part so the Blues must only make a move for the ex-Santos superstar only if they are sure about his fitness levels and influence on the team.

Neymar is world class and has the ability to make headlines each week. But Tuchel must remember he is here to build a team here at Stamford Bridge- one that works together to win titles. If Neymar fits that vision, then a move may not be that harmful.

Finances, on the other hand, would be a whole different story, with Neymar apparently earning £606,000-a-week at PSG currently.
