Report: Chelsea edge closer to landing 27-year-old England superstar

Raheem Sterling keen on Chelsea move as Manchester City brace for a second bid

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are preparing a second bid for Raheem Sterling and the general feeling around these negotiations is believed to be positive.

Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has emerged in recent days as the Blues’ priority target for attack and an opening bid from Chelsea was reportedly turned down earlier today.

Thomas Tuchel is working closely with Todd Boehly on matters relating to player recruitment and the German is understood to be pushing hard for the 27-year-old.

Raheem Sterling is now closer than ever before to joining Chelsea.

It seems like the Boehly-Clearlake administration are now closer than ever before to completing their first signing to get Chelsea’s post-Abramovich era underway.

Personal terms have already been discussed, with Sterling understood to be keen on a move to Chelsea. The England international is no stranger to West London, having spent seven of his formative years at the Queens Park Rangers academy.

Sterling joined City in the summer of 2015 and has since contributed 131 goals and 95 assists in 339 appearances. Those numbers are self-explanatory, and it’s easy to see why Tuchel and a data-driven individual like Boehly are desperate to get this deal over the line.

Matter of time

Sterling’s reason to consider leaving a trophy-winning juggernaut like City is a simple one – regular football. Chelsea appear more than happy to provide that, besides the guarantee to compete for silverware regularly.

After weeks of uncertainty in wake of the Boehly-Clearlake acquisition and an extensive boardroom reshuffle, Chelsea seem to be finally getting back to business. Given where things stand at the moment, expect Sterling to be the first official signing of Chelsea’s new era.
