Transfer News: Ousmane Dembele is willing to join Chelsea but wants first-team football
According to The Sun, Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is willing to join Chelsea and reunite with former boss Thomas Tuchel. The Frenchman is yet to sign a contract extension with the Blaugrana with his contract set to expire on 30 June.
The Blues will be looking to snap up the talented winger on a free transfer. PSG are also monitoring his situation but a move to the French capital looks unlikely.
The French winger will be looking for a club that can guarantee him game time if his time at the Spanish club does come to an end. And that makes sense, given his status, abilities, and the fact that the FIFA World Cup is just around the corner.
Will Dembele Leave?
In a video posted on social media, Dembele seemed to disregard Chelsea links as “just rumours”. While nothing is official, it does put a spanner in the Blues’ pursuit.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has had an excellent few months for his club. He has been a mainstay for Xavi, who has preferred playing him over the likes of Adama Traore and Memphis Depay. The Frenchman has been one of the bright sparks in a rather disappointing season for the Spanish club, bagging 13 assists in LaLiga.
However, a major fear for fans will be the Frenchman’s injury record. However, he was relatively fit when he was in Germany and France and the Blues would find some comfort in that information. If he joins us and stays fit, there is nothing stopping him from fulfilling his potential, even if he is already 25.
The ambidextrous winger could prove to be a valuable asset though for Tuchel and the team. Chelsea’s attack needs strengthening with Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic failing to impress since their arrival at the club. Callum Hudson Odoi is far from being the player Bayern Munich were interested in a few years ago.
It’s only a matter of time before a decision is made as the Frenchman is slowly closing in on the end of his contract. With the FIFA World Cup around the corner, it makes sense why Dembele wants assurances regarding game time.

Currently, the Blues have a stacked forward line but only on paper. Dembele would arguably be one of the most talented attackers in our squad- were he to join- and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him become a regular starter in attack over the likes of Pulisic, Werner, and Ziyech.
