Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku suffers an injury in UEFA Nations League clash Netherlands
According to the club’s official site, Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku had to be substituted at the half-hour mark against the Netherlands due to an injury.
The 29-year-old’s comeback spell at Stamford Bridge has majorly been a disappointment as the Belgian star hasn’t yet been able to replicate the form he showed at Inter Milan. Even though he ended the season as the West London club’s top scorer, Lukaku’s season was more of a miss than a hit.
The Belgian star started his nation’s Nations League opener but had a night to forget. He didn’t last long and was substituted at the half-hour mark following an injury that occurred after a collision with former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake. Even though he tried to continue after initial medical treatment, Lukaku couldn’t stand still due to the pain.
His departure put Belgium in hot waters as they started to crack in front of persistent Dutch attacks. The Netherlands scored four goals in that game, resulting in a humiliating defeat for Lukaku’s side.
Blow for Chelsea?
Lukaku hasn’t been his best self for Chelsea last season. Now there could be many reasons why the Belgian star’s breathtaking form dropped after his comeback to England, but one major side of the story could be his inability to adapt to Thomas Tuchel’s tactics.
However, this is a pretty normal scenario for several foreign players who have switched their teams and managers. The dilemma could have been solved with the extended rest this summer, aiding him in resetting his guns for the upcoming campaign.
However, By adding the Nations League to the calendar, UEFA has made it so difficult for the players to enjoy their time off and recover from what has been a hectic schedule. Now the players are pushed to play excessive games which are taking a toll on their well-being.
