Transfer News: Chelsea ‘serious’ about signing 27-year-old defender

Chelsea wants to make Milan Skriniar one of their central defenders next season

According to Tuttosport via SempreInter.com (h/t Football.London), Chelsea seriously wants to lure Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan this summer.

Skriniar, who joined Inter Milan from Sampdoria in 2017, is currently in his sixth season there. He played in 48 games there were in this season and even scored four goals for the 2021/21 Scudetto winners.

The 27-year-old centre defender’s contract is set to expire in June 2023, and he also has attracted interest from PSG and Tottenham. Currently, if the Italian side is unable to extend his deal and would understand that this summer is a good chance to cash in on him if they don’t want to lose him on a free.

Given the potential exodus in the backline, Thomas Tuchel is expected to receive financial support in the summer transfer window. To bolster their defence before the upcoming season, they have already been linked with players like Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt.

A wise deal for Chelsea?

Now, it appears that they are also aiming for Skriniar in order to satisfy their demands. It is believed that Chelsea are ‘serious’ about signing Skriniar from Inter Milan and might push for his signature in the ongoing transfer window.

We must bring in top-notch replacements for Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. That might be a problem given how difficult and possibly expensive it is to find players in that bracket.

Given that the excessive competition can shoot up his price, we might have to be careful how much we spend on him. Although the West London club plans to back Tuchel with a £200 million transfer fund, we must be prudent with our investment this summer because a number of areas require upgrading.

The Slovakian would be an ideal addition given the current situation because he has accumulated significant top-flight experience over the years and is a strong leader. After all, the 27-year-old is about to enter his prime playing years, which is appropriate for the makeup of our squad.

Kounde and de Ligt, two other candidates on the shortlist, provide us with some wiggle room even if we are compelled to abandon our interest in Skriniar. This is a deal that Chelsea would be very smart to pursue until the finish line.
