La Liga club could ‘withdraw’ contract offer for Chelsea target to avoid embarrassment

Barcelona may withdraw contract offer for Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Express), Barcelona are considering withdrawing the latest renewal offer of Ousmane Dembele, who is wanted by Chelsea.

The 25-year-old got his big break at Dortmund during the 2016–17 season. After just one season at the Signal Iduna Park, Barca agreed to pay an astounding £135.5 million to sign him.

He still has many years ahead of him, even though his transfer to Camp Nou cannot be considered successful. He will be a good addition if Tuchel can get him back to his best on a free transfer.

Given the current developments in the scenario, the Chelsea manager may be in a strong position to close a deal to capture Ousmane Dembele.

Dembele to Chelsea?

Chelsea are currently in the midst of it all, with some significant possible acquisitions on the horizon. Dembele is apparently one of Chelsea’s many other unfinished business projects.

The player has received an offer from the Catalan powerhouses, and a contract is on the table. However, Dembele hasn’t shown any interest in accepting it. With just days left before the France international becomes a free agent, all eyes will be on him come July.

Now it is believed that the Catalan giants are considering withdrawing their renewal offer for Dembele from the table as senior figures at the club don’t want to bear the embarrassment that the Frenchman is assessing other options while there is already an offer being made.

Due to their inconsistent performances, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, and Romelu Lukaku have done themselves no favours, and Chelsea would be wise to strengthen in that department.

The Belgian striker’s imminent loan return to Inter Milan is no secret. In such a situation, getting in a creative winger such as Dembele could give our forwards the service they need to start scoring more goals.

Dembele and Tuchel worked together at Borussia Dortmund, so Tuchel does know him well. And after a difficult period in Spain, he could once more bring out the best in him.

At Barcelona, Dembele has suffered from injuries and a lack of form. He probably needs a new beginning, and Chelsea may well provide it- were they to sign him this summer.
