Tuchel wants to sign 17-goal Premier League superstar at Chelsea

Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea want to sign Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling

According to Matt Law on the London Is Blue podcast (h/t Football.London), Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants to sign English winger Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

The former Liverpool man joined the Cityzens in 2015 and in his seven years at Manchester, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the best players in England. Unplayable at his best, Sterling is a key component of the juggernaut that Pep Guardiola has built.

The 27-year-old has been sensational for the Manchester club this season as the Premier League giants wrapped up yet another league title this month. Sterling has played 47 times for Pep Guardiola’s side scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists across all competitions this season.

Thomas Tuchel is said to be keen on bringing the talented Englishman to Stamford Bridge and has given his go-ahead for a move to be negotiated.

Long road?

Despite Thomas Tuchel’s interest in the English winger, convincing Sterling to come to Stamford Bridge might not be an easy task at all, especially considering the success he gets at the Etihad.

If Sterling comes to Stamford Bridge, he will expect to be the cornerstone of the project. Pep Guardiola may also not want to part ways with his prized asset given how much he has made use of the England international this season.

But it remains to be seen if the Cityzens hold the player against his will if he does want an exit this summer.

Chelsea are set to have a new owner once the takeover is completed and the people coming in would certainly want to make a big impression on the fans in the transfer market. Roman Abramovich was a man who made big signings, and Sterling could be the perfect big-name capture to get their reign at Stamford Bridge underway.

From a sporting point of view, the talent that Sterling possesses is obvious and as we have seen over the years, he can be magnificent on his day. Whilst he may definitely not come cheap, he can add a lot to Thomas Tuchel’s team and be a great player for Chelsea.

Convincing Raheem Sterling to leave Manchester will be a long road. If we manage to do it though, he could turn out to be a great signing for us. Although he does pocket around £300,000-a-week in wages, Chelsea would know the best players don’t necessarily come cheap.
