Chelsea joined by another European giant in the race for Belgian star; bidding war on the horizon

Transfer News: Chelsea joined by Real Madrid in the race for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans

Just under a year ago, Youri Tielemans scored an outrageous goal to hand Leicester City a win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Fast forward to today, and he is apparently linked with a move to the Blues.

According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t football.london), Real Madrid have entered the race for the Belgian international. Chelsea and Los Blancos are further joined by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as Tielemans’ potential exit looks likely this summer.

He is expected to cost his potential suitors between £33.6million and £50.4million with his future at the King Power Stadium ‘uncertain’. And to add to that, Manchester City and Liverpool’s interest in the player could also cause a potential bidding war in the near future.

Tielemans is an able passer of the ball who contributes both in attack as well as defence. Since Thomas Tuchel deploys a 3-4-2-1 system on most occasions at Chelsea, the ex-Anderlecht ace could fit in as one of our two central midfielders.

Tielemans to Chelsea?

In all honesty, the club could use one of those this summer. Billy Gilmour has had an unproductive spell at Norwich City and while Connor Gallagher has impressed hugely on loan at Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if that guarantees gametime for him under Tuchel.

N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are not getting any younger, and both of them have often looked uninspired this season. Kante, especially, looks tired which doesn’t come as a surprise to many given the workload he has had at Chelsea since his move from the Foxes.

Since Dennis Wise’s sale to Leicester more than two decades ago, transfer dealings between the two clubs have largely worked in our favour. The Blues have signed Kante, Danny Drinkwater, and Ben Chilwell from the Foxes in recent years.

Could Tielemans be a name that is added to the list? That is anyone’s guess at this point. Fans would perhaps tell you that the price being quoted for Tielemans is reasonable. He is still 24, after all, and with the PL and international experience he boasts, Chelsea could certainly do a lot worse than him this summer.

However, interest from abroad and Chelsea’s PL rivals could be a hurdle difficult to cross. Man City and LFC are at the pinnacle of the sport while Los Galacticos have been crowned La Liga champions.
