Transfer News: Chelsea miss out on the 20-year-old Erling Haaland replacement Karim Adeyemi

According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t football.london), Chelsea have missed out on the signing of the 20-year-old German International Karim Adeyemi to Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga side has apparently sealed the deal with Red Bull Salzburg.

Karim has been in excellent form for the Austrian team this season, amassing 23 goals and 8 assists in 42 games across all competitions. In the Champions League, he led the Salzburg attack with three goals in eight games, including a brace against LOSC Lille.

After his recent performances, many European biggies had shown interest in him, including Liverpool and Manchester United. As per Romano, the youngster’s agent Thomas Solomon has confirmed his move to the Bundesliga side as a replacement for the exit-bound Erling Haaland.

With Romelu Lukaku and Timi Werner linked with a move away from west London, this is somewhat of a blow for the Blues. The German was apparently one of the targets that the Blues wanted, but as it turns out, they may have to look elsewhere now.

Romelu Lukaku cost us £97.5million which is proof enough that Tuchel wanted him to become Chelsea’s main number 9. But that hasn’t worked out. Timo Werner’s subpar performances also seem to give no indication that he can be our leader in attack, and that has even seen Kai Havertz deputise in that role.

Karim’s performances in the Champions League also demonstrated his potential, and Chelsea were hoping to utilise it to help their assault in the 2022/23 season. He would have been a good option to have in the team, But then again, Chelsea must realise they can’t go around just collecting strikers.

Having too many big names on the bench doesn’t make sense, especially from the financial standpoint. The club must clearly outline what its priority is and focus on it. If it means a revamp up front under the potential new owners, then so be it.

Now that we have seemingly missed out on the German, similar to Haaland, we need to think of other alternatives in the attack if Tuchel doesn’t see Werner or Lukaku as Chelsea’s future. The club can use someone who can come up on big occasions and deliver for the Blues.
