Chelsea are ready to let 30-year-old midfield ace leave Stamford Bridge this summer

Transfer News: Chelsea are contemplating a Jorginho exit this summer

According to 90 min (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are willing to let Italian midfielder Jorginho leave the club this summer with his contract set to expire next year.

The former Napoli man joined Chelsea in 2018 and has since then gone on to become an important player for the Blues team, especially under Thomas Tuchel. The deep-lying Italian midfielder was instrumental in Chelsea’s run to the Champions League final last season and also starred in Italy’s Euro 2020 win.

Jorginho has not had the greatest of seasons this time around with the player struggling to put in consistent performances this time around. The 30-year-old has played 47 times for the Blues this season scoring nine goals and providing four assists across all competitions.

With his contract set to expire in 2023, the Blues are willing to be ready to let their Italian superstar leave. Juventus and Lazio are interested in the player and this could see the Blues fetch a decent sum for the veteran star.

A return to the homeland?

Returning to Italy makes sense for Jorginho and there is absolutely no harm in the club deciding to move on from him if the player wishes to leave. Chelsea needs something more in the middle of the park and there is no better time than now to rebuild.

Jorginho has been a great servant to the club during his time here but with his age and dipping performances, losing him will not affect us much. If the player agrees to sign a new deal with us, he could still be very useful to us but if not we can look at alternatives.

In Mateo Kovacic, we still have a great player but his injury troubles are a concern. Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are two of the biggest prospects in European football and they could lead the Chelsea midfield for many years to come and cover for Jorginho.

Still, if the Italian was to leave in the summer it makes sense to sign a replacement to keep up the quality within the squad. It remains to be seen as to how the Blues handle the situation with Jorginho. If he stays, good for us. If he leaves, it’s not the end of the world.
