“Up and down”- Tuchel gives honest verdict on Chelsea defender’s performance in Leeds win

Thomas Tuchel happy with Trevoh Chalobah after win against Leeds United

Speaking in a press conference, as quoted by football.london, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was pleased by the way the centre-back Trevoh Chalobah performed against Leeds United in their Premier League match on Wednesday. Chelsea will now secure a top-four finish if Arsenal don’t lose against Tottenham Hotspur tonight.

Chelsea end their winless streak. The Blues defeated 10-man Leeds United 3-0 at Elland Road on Wednesday, with Romelu Lukaku, Mason Mount, and Christian Pulisic each scoring a goal.

This win would be a good boost to the team ahead of their FA Cup final against Liverpool this weekend. Thomas Tuchel was delighted with the overall performance of the team and he also spoke about the English defender’s performance in his post-match interview.

“He can deliver these performances and he played a lot, so there is no reason to be disappointed for him. He has an unbelievable amount of matches from the start [of the season] and we know this. It’s normal to have a bit of an up and down in terms of positive performance, that is normal.

Will Trevoh Chalobah be the answer to Chelsea’s defensive woes?

Chalobah started the season well and was given starts on a regular basis. He has been missing games in April and perhaps Tuchel decided to make use of his core senior defenders before they potentially left for their new clubs.

The futures of Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Cesar Azpilicueta at the Bridge are currently up in the air. It won’t be news to any Chelsea fan, and this would create anxiety amongst many who support the Blues.

This is where Chalobah can potentially come in. The 22-year-old has spent almost all of his time in a back three on the right side and has displayed the calmness that a converted midfielder should have on the ball.

Chelsea would certainly be wise to reinforce their defence ahead of next season, especially if they fail to retain some of their star names. Chalobah could use some help in that regard but he can be a big part of Tuchel’s revamped defence going into the next campaign.

He has had a few ups and downs in his Chelsea career so far, but now he has the chance to reintegrate into the club and ensure that he has a part in the defence next season. He is under contract with Chelsea until 2026 and would like to make the most of his chances to impress the manager.

His performance and confidence in the recent win over Leeds would comfort fans to a great extent that he can be an asset for the club going forward. The youngster has a lot of time ahead of him and we can expect great things from him if this season is anything to go by.
