“Nothing to lose”- Enraged Tuchel blames Chelsea stars following Wolves comeback

Thomas Tuchel accuses Chelsea stars of failing to perform at Stamford Bridge against Wolves

According to The Mirror, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with his player’s performance in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge against Wolves.

The Blues took a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s brace, but Thomas Tuchel’s side never looked comfortable and ended up conceding twice to share the spoils on the night. The German was dissatisfied with how his side squandered their advantage and was vocal about it at full-time.

In his post-game press conference, Tuchel criticised the players of not keeping to the plan and not displaying true character in order to secure three points. The Blues boss vented about how bad his squad played despite enjoying a two-goal lead until late in the second half.

“It’s about the structure and where you lose the ball. The opponent takes a crazy approach because they have nothing to lose and we could not score the third goal. The pass is missing, the dribbling is wrong, the decision is wrong.”

“So at some point we played like we were 2-0 down rather than 2-0 up. I need to watch it again, but it was a lack of execution of discipline and execution of the match plan throughout a whole half and we get punished for it.”

What exactly went wrong?

Chelsea had a lot of possession in the first half and were in command as Lukaku scored a quickfire brace around the hour mark. We never played like European Champions after that; we wanted to relax and not go for the kill, assuming the game was already won.

But, shortly after coming on, Wolves substitute Trincao produced a moment of magic to give the visitors hope. Boehly’s frustrating day was capped off by Coady’s equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage time at the end of the game that silenced Stamford Bridge.

We lacked that determination to see out a match that we had by the scruff of the neck. As the gaffer rightly said we were unable to score the third goal because the final pass was missing, the dribbling was incorrect, and the decision making was incorrect.

We could have welcomed the new owner with three points had the players shown more focus and determination to win. Unfortunately, this did not happen, and we must now learn from our mistakes and move on.
