Report: Ownership bidders keen to secure future of two Chelsea stars by way of new contracts

The Todd Boehly consortium wants to extend the contracts of Reece James and Mason Mount if they become new Chelsea owners

According to The Guardian, one of the strong bidders for Chelsea ownership, the Todd Boehly consortium, are aware of the need to renew the contract of Reece James and Mason Mount as a priority task. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s group, meanwhile, are also interested in opening contract talks with the English duo.

James and Mount both have become crucial players for Chelsea under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel. Being Chelsea’s own academy products, they were already widely adored by the time they made their first-team breakthroughs. And in the years since then, they have only become a bigger part of this club.

Chelsea would surely hope to not lose these two Cobham graduates who are on course to become club legends. However, the recent ownership dilemma surrounding the club has hammered the Blues’ ability to propose a new contract to them.

Previously Goal (h/t Daily Express) claimed that both the players are attracting interest from top-tier teams. Amid such a situation, our club is at the risk of losing the talented youngster if any rival team successfully convinces them to make a move by leveraging our club’s uncertain future.

Now, it is believed that the preferred bidders for Chelsea ownership, the Todd Boehly consortium, have taken a close interest in acknowledging the aforementioned issue. They want to secure the renewal contract of the duo as soon as they take charge of the club.

Good decision from the Todd Boehly group?

Mason Mount and Reece James are hugely talented players. They have the potential to become the best in the world someday, and Chelsea would definitely benefit from their quality in years to come. Mount has become one of our most vital playmakers.

And James is arguably our most dangerous attacking outlet down the right flank. The English right-back’s injury earlier this season was a hammer blow to the club and is arguably one of the reasons why we failed to capitalise on our excellent start this campaign.

If the duo leaves the club in the near future, one can only imagine the costs of replacing them like for like. It is important for any prospective Chelsea owner to understand the importance of local heroes that have scaled their way to the top from the academy.

Todd Boehly’s group and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s consortium seem to be on the right path on the matter. But, there are still considerable barriers in the ownership process, and it is still not understood when the new owners would be handed over the power.

As long as Chelsea aren’t officially announcing a new owner, uncertainties and doubts could prevail regarding the contracts of the academy duo and several other crucial players. But our players are smart enough to understand that this problem can go away soon and that they will etch themselves in our history books if they stick with us during such times.
