Chelsea star “shocked” teammates by pre-FA Cup final decision

Andreas Christensen refused to participate in the Chelsea FA Cup final defeat against Liverpool and went missing from the hotel

According to Mirror, Chelsea centre back Andreas Christensen left his teammates “shocked” after abandoning them in their FA Cup defeat against Liverpool on Saturday. He is linked with a move to Barcelona at the end of the season.

The Dane has been linked with a move to Barcelona after his decision to leave Chelsea. Since the start of the season, the team has struggled to reach an agreement to extend his contract. Due to the lengthy negotiations, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel officially stated that he left Christensen out of his starting lineup early in the season.

Despite being certified fit to play, the 26-year-old had been feeling poorly over the week and had ruled himself out of the trip to Wembley. His Chelsea teammates were “shocked and confused” when Christensen disappeared from the team hotel on Saturday morning.

Unprofessional conduct by Christensen?

Chelsea were already limited on centre-back alternatives, so 22-year-old Trevoh Chalobah took his place. Hopefully, it was because of some health concern and not because he wants to depart this summer.

It is hard to think why the latter could be the case unless something has gone wrong behind the scenes. The ex-Borussia Monchengladbach star is going to be a free agent this summer if he doesn’t pen a new deal, so it’s not like the Blues can stop him from moving clubs.

If it is a health concern, then it would be wise to wait for a comment from Tuchel himself or the club. Things will be clearer by the time we play our next game which comes on Thursday against Leicester City.

We must move on and consider the other side of the issue since we will find challenges in the transfer market this summer. With the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, as well as speculation surrounding Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta, the Blues must find replacements for these positions.

But for now, the focus will remain on Christensen until he takes to the pitch- or if he does so at all. We only have two games remaining this season and need a win to cement a top-four finish.

It is a shame to see one of our best defenders in this current team potentially leave this summer, but no player is bigger than the club. The Blues must prepare for life without the Danish international and back Tuchel so that he can displace City and LFC from the pinnacle of English football.
