Chelsea senior stars urge U-23 star Harvey Vale to sign fresh terms

According to The Athletic (h/t football.london), Chelsea’s first-team players have urged Harvey Vale to extend his contract to the senior team. Vale assisted the Blues development squad in pulling off a spectacular late comeback on Sunday to save their Premier League 2 Division One status.

The youngster has made the senior bench on several occasions so far this season. Chelsea also included the midfielder in their senior squad throughout the season but he has not really been trusted yet with minutes on the field.

Speaking about his son in an interview for The Athletic, Vale’s father has indicated that senior players are interested in promoting his son to the first squad. The first team stars even admitted to Vale that the current Chelsea club needed a player like him.

Will Vale get an opportunity in the first team?

With new owners looking to get on board by the end of May, Chelsea would be ready to make big signings to strengthen the squad this summer. What role Vale will get to play in next season’s squad remains unclear.

The management’s priority must be to improve the defence and replace the players on their way out and those who are regressing. Although there was a concern about N’Golo Kante and Jorginho leaving the club during the ownership saga, things might get better in the weeks to come.

More Chelsea news

It’s unlikely that Harvey will get to play regularly in the senior team considering the quality the Chelsea midfield possesses. With the likes of Conor Gallagher set to return, opportunities might get harder to come by.

Taking into account Vale’s recent performance for Chelsea’s second team and the senior players’ urge to promote him to the first team, he does appear to have a role to play at Stamford Bridge. It all depends on how the manager feels about him and how he can develop from an Under-23 star to a reliable senior star.
