Chelsea risks losing star duo thanks to ongoing ownership saga

Chelsea are concerned that N’Golo Kante and Jorginho would leave in a major player exodus as takeover nears completion.

According to The Sun (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea are fearful of losing the midfield pair owing to the ‘Roman Abramovich saga’. Despite Todd Boehly’s £4.25 billion purchase getting closer, a major exodus of Blues players is in the spotlight.

There has been a lot happening inside the club since sanctions were imposed on Roman Abramovich after the Government accused him of having links to Vladimir Putin. The west Londoners have already lost a couple of key players and possible signings, and it appears that they will struggle to keep many of their senior players.

The club is being bought by a group led by American Todd Boehly for more than £4.25 billion, but it may not be enough to avoid a crisis at the west London club. The incoming Blues manager is expected to have to act quickly in order to secure the midfield duo N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in the summer.

The Blues’ takeover might be jeopardised following Roman Abramovich demanding repayment of a £1.6 billion loan to the club as part of the deal. Abramovich had given the team a loan through an investment company and had first stated that he did not want the money returned.

Aside from losing their star players, Chelsea might be condemned from the Premier League next season if their takeover fails. All of this has acted as a trigger for top Chelsea players to consider their futures and depart the club in the midst of a crisis.

Transfer news: Juventus make contact with Chelsea star Jorginho.

The Champions League-winning duo might be on their way out at the end of the season, according to The Sun (h/t Daily Star). It follows the likely departures of centre-back duo Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.

The defensive duo’s recent transfer update has “gutted” some senior players, who refuse to accept that the Russian billionaire’s sanction is to blame for their exit. This has even prompted club captain Cesar Azpilicueta to consider leaving, despite the fact that Chelsea has a clause in the Spaniard’s contract that allows them to activate a 12-month extension.

The contracts of several Chelsea players are set to expire min the coming seasons. These players have played a key role in Chelsea’s recent triumphs; given the club’s present situation, finding players with their level of experience, skillset, and age profile would be tough, and we would need them to stay.

We have trust in Tuchel and the Chelsea family, and if Todd Boehly takes over Chelsea, his first priority should be to avoid a mass player exodus. The new owner must restore faith and trust in the club, which could be achieved if the club is acquired quickly.
