Report: Chelsea set for an eight-figure windfall as a result of UCL final outcome

Chelsea to receive huge money because of Eden Hazard and Real Madrid’s success in the Champions League

According to Metro, Chelsea are set to receive a huge payment from Real Madrid due to the included clause in Eden Hazard’s contract. Chelsea couldn’t defend their Champions League title after losing to Los Blancos in the quarter-final of the prestigious tournament.

Madrid went on to beat Liverpool in the final to secure their historic 14th UCL title. Even though the Blues weren’t a part of the final, they are expected to receive a huge payment from Florentino Pérez’s side as a result of the win.

The Blues sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in 2019 for an initial price of £88.5m, however, there were some add-ons included in the deal which could shoot the final price to more than £130m, as per the Sun

One of the clauses entailed that if Hazard helps Real Madrid to win the La Liga, the West London outfit would receive £20m, which they secured in 2020. Now a similar clause obliged the Spanish team to pay a similar amount due to Hazard’s involvement in the club’s Champions League triumph.

Hazard wasn’t used in the final by Carlo Ancelotti and was barely involved in the build-up to the final. But that isn’t stopping Chelsea from securing the huge money from the clauses attached to his contract.

How can Chelsea use the fee?

Chelsea might have failed to reach the final, but the result seems to be going in favour of the Blues. Firstly, they avoided seeing a Premier League rival picking up the coveted title and secondly, the money received from Hazard’s clause might turn out to be useful in the following summer window.

Chelsea are expected to lose a series of crucial players including Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen, César Azpilicueta, and Marcos Alonso. The first two of those are set to depart as free agents, hence the club might not receive any fee for their departure.

Chelsea have to bring crucial reinforcements in the summer window and it would cost them a significant amount of money to replace world-class players. Financial backing would play a huge role in the final say for some of their targets if they attract the intention of other parties.

It wasn’t a pretty sight to see Madrid lift the trophy for our fans, granted they were the ones to dump us out of the competition in a heartbreaking fashion. Nevertheless, our fans find solace in the fact that Hazard hasn’t been nearly as good at Santiago Bernabeu as he was during his spell at the Bridge.

And with the Belgian star continuing to benefit us in a financial sense three years on from when he left London, it just makes the whole deal sweeter. It would have been money well spent for Madrid had Hazard been one of the best players in the world in his position- like he was during his time in England.

But now, it would sting for them to pay such an amount to the Blues.
