“Find other ways”- Chelsea loanee gives honest verdict on his Blues future

Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill speaks about his future plans after solid season at Huddersfield

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post as quoted by Football.London, Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill has opened up about future transfer plans with regards to Chelsea and Huddersfield.

The talented English centre-back is out on loan at Huddersfield from Chelsea for the season and has impressed one and all with his performances this season. Colwill has been a key figure in the promotion push of the Terriers and has been one of the best defenders in the Championship.

The 19-year-old centre-back has been one of Terrier’s best players this season. The English starlet has played 31 games for the club this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist across all competitions. Primarily a centre-back also capable of playing at left-back, Colwill’s versatility is a huge plus.

Speaking about what he plans to do at the end of the loan spell, the Cobham starlet said

“There’s too much respect for me to close the door. We need to get promotion first, which is the only thing I’m thinking of right now.”

“For me, playing for Chelsea will always be the main aim right now because it’s my club. But if that doesn’t happen, well then I have to find other ways to progress and become the player I want to be.”

Future at Chelsea?

Levi Colwill seems to have all the raw materials required to make it big at Chelsea and looks like he could have a huge future at Stamford Bridge. It is always great seeing one of your young academy starlets in the conversation about making it into the first team.

A left-footed centre-back who can play on the left-hand side of a back three or also as a left-back, he can fit seamlessly into Thomas Tuchel’s system- at least on paper. Although not still a finished product, the German tactician could be able to develop the English centre-back and make him a world-class player.

That is what is seemingly happening with Trevoh Chalobah right now. And it is wise to remember how our youth academy was utilised by Frank Lampard when the club had a transfer ban a few years back.

Chelsea have a defensive pickle to solve with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving the club in the summer on free transfers. Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also said to be reconsidering his future and it remains to be seen what happens with either player.

A huge summer awaits Chelsea and in Colwill, they could find an internal solution for all their troubles. Whether Tuchel chooses to back him and give him a starring role remains to be seen.

But it wouldn’t be a bad call to get him in, see how he fares in pre-season or in cup games and then go on from there.
