31-year-old Chelsea superstar could be moved on this summer

Transfer News: Chelsea could look to move N’Golo Kante on this summer

According to Florian Plettenberg (via SkySports) (h/t Football.London), Chelsea could be looking to move N’Golo Kante on in the summer as they look to avoid losing the Frenchman on a free when his contract expires in 2023.

The Frenchman joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2016 and has since then gone on to become one of the best midfielders in the world during this period. Kante has received several plaudits for his consistent performances on the pitch and his attitude.

This season hasn’t been kind to Kante with his performances on the pitch coming under the microscope. Injuries have not helped his cause with the talented midfielder struggling to find a rhythm in the team. The 31-year-old has played 42 times for Thomas Tuchel’s team this season scoring two goals and providing five assists but only 55% of his minutes have come as a starter this season.

Kante’s contract with the Blues is set to expire in the summer of 2023 and he is yet to pen down a new deal with the London club. Now it is being reported that Chelsea might look to sell the player this summer to avoid losing him for free.

Not the same mistake?

With Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger set to leave the club on free transfers this summer, we are trying not to repeat the mistake with N’Golo Kante.

The Frenchman has been a great servant to the club and no one will forget his unbelievable performances in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals last year as we won the Champions League by beating Manchester City in Thomas Tuchel’s first season in charge.

There is no denying Kante’s importance to Tuchel’s team and it is evident that the German coach wants his star man to stay on. However, we simply cannot afford to lose yet another player for free and that is why the French midfielder might be sold if he does not agree to a new deal.

If the 31-year-old was indeed to leave, we can put the money to good use to procure a replacement. We also have Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour returning from loans and we can trust them to take over from Kante next season in the first team.

The Kante situation needs to be sorted out as soon as possible. It makes sense to not repeat our mistake but if the Frenchman agrees to a new deal, we must hand him one and get the issue sorted. It remains to be seen as to what the club decide to do.
