Antonio Rudiger denies that sanctions were the reason for his Chelsea exit

According to AS English, Antonio Rudiger has revealed that the UK government’s sanctions against Chelsea were not the catalyst for his departure. He is set to move to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, the German international has been one of the Blues’ crucial players. He has risen through the ranks to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League and among the best in the world right now.

After joining Chelsea in 2017, the centre-back has played in four FA Cup finals, winning one, and one Champions League final. His accomplishments also include the UEFA Super Cup, Europa League, and Club World Cup.

Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger set to undergo medical ahead of Real Madrid transfer

Sanctions were not the reason?

Rudiger has now revealed that sanctions were not the reason for his decision to move out of Stamford Bridge. He also spoke about the support he received from the club and how it has helped him.

“There was a chance but sanctions were not the problem. It’s been five years with ups and downs as normal. There were a lot of positive things, but that’s why I’m even more frustrated because I wanted to have a different ending. It’s about both sides. Chelsea have been great to me and I have been great for Chelsea. I am very, very thankful, both me and my family. I became a man here. My kids were born here and everything. London, and especially Chelsea, will always be special to me.”

This statement contradicts Thomas Tuchel’s earlier comments that the management was trying to retain him but the sanctions are making it difficult to up the offer. If sanctions were not the actual reason then what would have stopped us from extending his contract?

Antonio Rudiger would leave Chelsea this summer transfer window

The former Roma star would be looking forward to a brighter future with Real Madrid and winning some silverware, something Chelsea are yet to achieve this season. Chelsea have lost a penalty shootout against Liverpool for the second time this season, adding the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup they missed out on.

More Chelsea news

Rudiger has two games left with Chelsea before leaving, with the Blues facing Leicester City on Thursday and Watford at the end of the season. We’d like to finish the season well by winning the remaining games and giving our ace defender a proper send-off.
