Transfer News: Real Madrid interested in Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante

According to AS (h/t Shields Gazette), Real Madrid are interested in making a move for Chelsea ace N’Golo Kante should he become available in the coming transfer window.

The French international has been an assuring presence in our midfield ever since making the move from Leicester City. The Spanish club could use some quality additions in the middle of the park to provide suitable cover for the likes of Luka Modric, Casemiro, and Toni Kroos. who have been the heart of the midfield at Santiago Bernabeu under Carlo Ancelotti.

Kante could be a useful acquisition for them as Los Blancos have apparently shown their willingness to sign the 31-year-old midfielder should the opportunity arise. His current contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit expires in June 2023, which could prompt some of the top clubs to take notice considering his experience at the elite level coupled with the ability that he possesses on and off the ball.

While this should put Chelsea on high alert, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of nerves with respect to his long-term future at the club. Kante is also believed to have turned down a move to PSG in January and is thought to be happy at the London-based club right now, as per Le Parisien (h/t Daily Mail).

Is Kante here to stay?

The former Leicester man has been rock solid in our midfield creating a solid partnership alongside Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho under Thomas Tuchel. The French midfielder made his 250th milestone appearance in all competitions for the Blues against Brentford.

Sadly, that joy was short-lived as our West London rivals ran riot on the day, thrashing us by a humiliating scoreline of four goals to one. Kante was arguably himself at fault for Brentford’s second goal of the game when he decided to leave Christian Eriksen free in the box and chase the Bees player in possession down the wing.

Despite that, we sit comfortably in the third position on the Premier League table and would be looking to put in a better performance in our upcoming UEFA Champions League tie against Los Galacticos on 7th April.

The Frenchman is the perfect example of professionalism and the youngsters in our dressing room could learn a lot from the way he conducts himself both on and off the pitch. One can rarely fault him for a lack of determination or effort and we wouldn’t be surprised to see if more potential suitors will come knocking on the door as his current contract runs down

At 31, one could say that the Blues would be wise to look at suitable replacements in order to future proof the midfield, but the World Cup winner has shown time and again that he has a lot to give to this team when fully fit. We could, thus, benefit from having a senior player like him in our ranks and the club should be wary of any interest from other clubs if they are genuinely interested in keeping the player at Stamford Bridge beyond this season.

More Chelsea News

With young midfielders like Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher coming through our ranks, Kante’s guidance could help them become the best versions of themselves. More than that, Kante’s availability and tireless running in midfield is something Chelsea have benefitted from for years- and there is nothing to say why they can’t continue doing that in the near future.
