Transfer News: Chelsea facing Levi Colwill transfer dilemma
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, as quoted by Football London, Chelsea face a dilemma over transfer decision over the future of Levi Colwill with the Blues loanee impressing at Huddersfield this season.
The Cobham graduate has been on loan at Huddersfield from Chelsea this season and has performed exceptionally well for the Championship team. The 19-year-old centre-back has been a mainstay in the Terrier’s defence this season.
The talented English youngster has played 27 times for Huddersfield this season scoring two goals and providing one assist during this time. His decision to move away from the Blues in search of regular game time has worked wonders with many Premier League clubs taking notice of the teenager.
Marcio claims that the Terriers are interested in retaining the services of a player who has served them extremely well this season. Fellow Championship rivals Fulham are also said to be interested in Colwill. Fulham and Huddersfield are battling for promotion to the Premier League this season.
Colwill could want to play for a Premier League club next season and the promotion of both teams could determine his decision. Bigger clubs like Leicester, Everton and Southampton are also said to be keen on signing a player who could turn out to be a star in the future.
Transfer dilemma?
With so much interest from so many Premier League clubs, Chelsea have a dilemma on their hands. Do they let Colwill leave and take the money or do they bet on him as one for the future and invest in him long term?
The fact that Colwill is a centre-back could turn out to work in his favour. The Blues could face a defensive exodus come the end of the season and in the youngster, they might have an in-house solution.
Andreas Christensen is expected to be on his way out on a free transfer in the summer. Antonio Rudiger’s future at the club is far from certain. Although Cesar Azpilicueta has seen his contract extension triggered, his staying at the club beyond this season is not clear.
If the trio leave, Chelsea may have to dip into the market to sign new players for the position. However, it is still not sure if they will be able to buy three centre-backs to replace the three outgoing players if they leave.

In this case, the Blues will have to turn to Cobham and that is where Colwill could come into the picture. Thomas Tuchel has shown in the past that he is not shy about using players from the academy as seen with Trevoh Chalobah this season.
It remains to be seen what Chelsea does with Colwill but what is evident as of now is that the English centre-back is destined to make it big, at Stamford Bridge or elsewhere.
