Manager Thomas Tuchel provides an update on his Chelsea future
Speaking in the media, as quoted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that he is still committed to the project and wants to ‘turn things around’ at Stamford Bridge.
Since January 2021, the ride has been turbulent for Tuchel, with many ups and downs along the way. The Blues secured the Champions League title against Manchester City last summer under the supervision of the German manager, which is an incredible achievement considering how average the team started to look under Frank Lampard.
Chelsea started this season with sheer dominance in the Premier League. However, as the season advanced, injury problems played a part in derailing our campaign.
As a result, the Blues lost the Carabao Cup final, got eliminated from the Champions League and are currently involved in a top-four battle with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal rather than fighting for the title. However, we still have an FA Cup final against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to look forward to next month.
Thomas Tuchel signed an 18-months contract with the Blues in January 2021. He later extended that deal by two years, which means he will see his deal expire in the summer of 2024.
When asked about a possible extension in a recent interview, Tuchel reflected that he is pretty optimistic about a stay at the club and sent a message showcasing his commitment and passion for the Blues.
“It’s very important for me to give a message: I’m committed, I’m looking forward to it, and I’m passionate about it. And as soon as we can act, we will try to turn things around and make it, from a disadvantage, maybe an advantage.”
Good news for the Blues fans?
Tuchel has really given this Chelsea team their identity back since taking over last year. His tactics have been successful so far and the Blues have made themselves into genuine contenders for every title they participate in. And when we suffered a setback, we went down with a fight, which showcases the manager’s positive impact on the team and the players.
Covid and injury issues shouldn’t be a reflection of Tuchel’s job this season. Injury to players such as Reece James and Ben Chilwell has played a part in weakening this Chelsea to a big extent.
Chelsea were far from a European heavyweight when Tuchel took over. Turning things around in only one year is a massive achievement in itself. Hence the board would be wise not to change a winning formula when it is working- even though there isn’t really an indication if Tuchel’s job is under any threat, to begin with.
