PL heavyweights ready to battle Chelsea for 25-year-old Serie A defensive ace

Liverpool set to bid for Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer amidst Chelsea interest

According to the Italian news outlet Tuttojuve (h/t The Sun), Liverpool are in line to bid for Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer this summer amidst interest from Chelsea for a potential move. His presence at the back has played a crucial part to help his side become one of the best defences in Serie A this season.

Bremer has attracted a lot of attention from some of the major clubs across Europe as a result of his excellent displays for the Italian club. The Blues have expressed their intentions to sign him as they could potentially be subjected to a defensive crisis in the summer transfer window.

Now, the Reds have entered the race, and they are looking to complete a move by making a bid worth £25milllion. Thomas Tuchel’s side would also face heavy competition from Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United and Arsenal to finalise a move for the Brazilian central defender.

Do Chelsea need Bremer?

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are out of contracts after this season, which in and of itself raises concerns over our defensive set-up. What’s more, Christensen seems to be close to joining Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of this term. That means we need to prepare for the worst and shortlist appropriate targets for this summer.

We also need to protect our backline with a long term plan in mind, considering how Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta are nearing the end of their playing careers. We also need a commanding presence to lead Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah in the coming years as well.

Bremer can certainly be that man as he has shown the leadership skills to be an imposing presence within the team. However, the transfer ban does prevent us from engaging in any dealings ahead of the next season. Despite that, we are confident that a sale will be finalised soon so that the West London side can return to their normal workings.

However, the entry of Jurgen Klopp’s side would complicate matters for us. The fact that they are looking to put in a transfer bid shows their degree of intention as well. We must overcome them if there are plans to bolster our defence amidst the need for reinforcements.

With several other major European clubs also being alongside us, it would probably result in an interesting summer transfer window. It remains to be seen where the 25-year-old will end up in the summer. Hopefully, Stamford Bridge will prove to be his next destination.
