Italian heavyweights to raid Stamford Bridge for 30-year-old Chelsea superstar on one condition

Juventus will only target Chelsea star Jorginho this summer on a cut-price deal

According to the Italian publication Calciomercato via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Juventus will only target Chelsea midfielder Jorginho this summer transfer window if he is available on a cut-price deal. He was recently subjected to a damning blow as Italy failed to make it to the 2022 Qatar World Cup after losing to North Macedonia.

The 30-year-old is set to enter the last year of his current contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of this season. Juve have been long term admirers of the holding midfielder and could make a move this summer. However, their pursuit will depend on certain conditions regarding a potential transfer.

The Bianconeri are “thinking” about signing the former Napoli man, but their CEO Maurizio Arrivabene has some reservations over a summer move. The Italian club a rule of not buying players past their 30s, and Arrivabene ‘does not allow for deviations from the rule’. Hence any transfer for the midfielder would only be possible if he is available at “almost zero” price.

Juve can keep dreaming

The Italian international is an important cog in our team as he orchestrates our entire play from the pivot position. He is the one who controls the tempo and makes us tick cohesively. As such, there is no reason to see why we would even entertain any approaches for him after this term.

What’s funny is how the Serie A side has expressed an interest in the Premier League superstar, thinking that he could be available for cheap. They should question themselves, as it would be baffling to see Thomas Tuchel’s side letting the defensive midfielder leave on a cut-price deal.

We still do not have a like to like backup for Jorginho in our squad, plus the youngsters are not yet ready to take over the role. Billy Gilmour could come in as an understudy for the Italian star, but the Blues loanee would still need time to get accustomed to Tuchel’s system.

As such, the West London side should look to renew Jorginho’s contract so that he would not be subjected to any more interests. We do not want to create uncertainty with his future as well, especially after the debacle surrounding our centre-back trio in Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.

However, the current transfer ban imposed on the club prevents them from engaging in any contract dealings. Hence, we must find a solution soon to address this issue first so that we can tie down our superstars on a new deal. Let’s wait and see what lies in store for us as we near the end of this campaign.
