“I am optimistic”- Chelsea target reveals meeting with La Liga club over new contract

Chelsea target Ronald Araujo sends transfer message as contract meeting with Barcelona is set for tomorrow

Chelsea target Ronald Araujo has given a firm message regarding his future at Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window. He has expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou in the future, which would undoubtedly deal a damning blow to the English club.

Araujo has been linked with an exit from Barca, with several Premier League sides keeping track of him right now. The Blues were claimed to be one of them before their interest was put to a halt due to the current sanctions. That could change if the UK Government removes the restrictions in the future, thereby giving them a chance to make a case for themselves.

However, the interested parties have been dealt a blow after the Uruguayan revealed that he wants to stay with the Catalans moving forward. Speaking in the post-match presser after their 1-0 win against Sevilla (h/t The Sun), the centre-back also conveyed that he is confident about a positive outcome in the meeting that will take place this week regarding a renewal.

“I am very happy to be here and happy with the support of the club. We are working. This week we have a meeting. I hope it will be resolved soon so that I can continue many years at this club. I am optimistic.”

No more room for Chelsea?

Following the 23-year-old revelation, it was further confirmed that the meeting will take place today, according to Barcelona transfer specialist Gerard Romero (h/t Fabrizio Romano). It is stated that the said discussions will be of importance even if it is not the final one that will give a definitive outcome.

It would be wise to divert our attention elsewhere and find other appropriate targets ahead of the next season. Since we received the latest stance from the La Liga ace himself, we are currently underhanded for now unless there is a breakdown in contract talks moving forward.

We must keep close tabs on the latest developments that take place regarding this deal. Perhaps, that could give us a firm idea of whether there is an outside chance for us to make a case or not. That being said, we should always plan for a worst-case scenario.

The centre-back position is an area that is very sensitive for us looking at the current circumstances. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are out of contract this summer, showcasing the dire need for possible replacements. Even though Cesar Azpiliceuta renewed his deal by way of a special appearance clause, there is still a chance that he could join Xavi Hernandez’s side.

Hence, we must look at other targets and set up things to ramp up the efforts once the club’s sale is facilitated in the future. Araujo would have been a smart addition to our backline, but it seems that we are in a losing battle after considering all the latest developments.

Perhaps, letting Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi leave permanently last summer was a mistake after all. The former, especially, has been making waves in Milan while the latter has become an important part of a rejuvenated, youthful Crystal Palace side this season.
