Veteran defender Thiago Silva gives a glowing verdict of his time at Chelsea

Speaking to the official Chelsea site, Thiago Silva highlighted that he was proud of being part of Chelsea. He also hinted at the joy he feels at being accepted in his relatively short time at Stamford Bridge.

The 37-year-old has cemented himself as a dependable option in the backline. Very few players can boast the kind of experience that he has at the elite level, as the Brazilian has played an important part in our success over the last couple of seasons.

His composure and ability to anchor the backline have really helped us build a solid defensive foundation. The former PSG player continues to be a sturdy presence at the back and seems to be getting better with every game in which he dons the Blue jersey.

In conversation with the Chelsea website, the Brazilian international spoke about how the support from the fans along with the chants has helped him become a seamless part of the setup at Stamford Bridge.

‘I didn’t expect to have so much recognition in such a short time and now I’m being cheered that way, so it’s certainly a source of great pride and I feel very proud to be part of this club,’

Thiago Silva also highlighted how he feels an extra sense of responsibility when he hears the fans sing his name out loud. At 37, the Brazilian defender shows great skill and professionalism on the pitch. It is something that the younger players in the dressing room will definitely benefit from.

‘The chant gets stuck in my head. When I enter the stadium some of them start singing and then it spreads to the other side. It really motivates me a lot but at the same time, it gives me a big responsibility because I know they count on me to be at a high level so that I don’t concede goals.

Silva’s time at Stamford Bridge

The Brazilian international made a name for himself with Paris Saint-Germain where he made a total of 315 appearances across all competitions to date. Silva joined the Blues in 2020 at the age of 35 when the club was being managed by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

Whilst there would have been people who would have questioned the feasibility of such a transfer considering his age, the former AC Milan defender has shown his worth on numerous occasions. The Brazilian defender has thus made himself an important part of the defence under Thomas Tuchel and his ability to play out from the back is a great asset.

The West Londoners have been marred by injury issues, a covid outbreak as well as the looming uncertainty brought around by the sanctions this season. Despite all of that the players have managed to churn out impressive results in recent memory with the loss to Brentford being the only exception.

Silva has time and again shown that he has what it takes to keep performing at the top level. The 37-year-old has slowly become a fan favourite and the Brazilian seems to be enjoying his life at Stamford Bridge. The former Fluminense player extended his contract with the Blues in January which keeps him at the club till the 2022/23 season.

We would be hoping that he can help us bag some more silverware before he calls it quits at Chelsea. It would be interesting to see how long Silva can keep performing at these levels. That being said, the Brazilian would probably go down as one of the shrewdest transfers we made in the last few years.
