25-year-old Chelsea star keen to hold talks with Tuchel as Stamford Bridge exit looms

Timo Werner set to discuss his future with Chelsea amidst Borussia Dortmund interest

According to GOAL (h/t The Sun), Timo Werner is set to hold a meeting with Chelsea to discuss his future prospects amidst interest from Borussia Dortmund. A departure from Stamford Bridge seems probable for the German at this stage, having struggled to be decisive in front of goal consistently.

Werner has failed to showcase the same form he had shown at RB Leipzig, which prompted the Blues to sign him in the first place. The English side forked out £48million in transfer fees for his services back in 2020, and with hindsight, Leipzig seems to be the winner in that particular deal.

The 25-year-old’s entourage will engage in discussions with the West London club in the next few weeks. With Dortmund keen to sign the striker, it remains to be seen whether Thomas Tuchel’s side would sell him since he has not found his feet after two seasons with them.

Werner – stay or leave?

It is really difficult to understand what happened with the Germany international as he seems to do everything right apart from putting the ball into the net. Recently he played a major hand in saving us from a FA Cup upset against Luton Town, but he could have put the game to bed before.

At this moment, it seems that Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz are ahead of Werner in the Chelsea attack pecking order. We also have players like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech to play on the wings. As such, it would not be too much of a surprise to see the club deem the former Leipzig star dispensable.

After all, Werner earns massive wages of around £250,000-per-week, which is too expensive for someone who has not clicked for us. What’s more, his salary is considered to be a roadblock if we decide to sell him to the Bundesliga side. Whether a move will happen or not would only be known in due time.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Tuchel and whether the boss would want Werner to stay with us moving forward. Then again, the money we receive from the Premier League forward’s sale could be used to bolster our other areas. As such, let’s wait and see how the meeting would pan out in the next few weeks.

There is a possibility that Werner could be sold to solve the defensive crisis that could unravel next summer. Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger are in line to become free agents after this season. We may require funds to replace them if they do not renew their deals, plus positions like right wingback also need more options.

Whether Werner would be axed by the Blues boss or not remains to be seen as we near the summer transfer window. Unless he steps up in the games to come, the former could very well prove to be the case.
