Thomas Tuchel reveals what Kai Havertz offers more to Chelsea than Timo Werner or Romelu Lukaku
According to Football.london, Thomas Tuchel has conveyed how Kai Havertz contributes more to the success of Chelsea compared to Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku. The German recently scored a double helping his team to trounce Burnley 4-0 in the Premier League fixture.
Tuchel has utilised Havertz as the lone striker in the past few games following Werner’s and Lukaku’s struggles in front of the goal. The change was first made for the first leg of the round of 16 match against LOSC Lille in the Champions League. That decision eventually proved to be a success as the attack looked more fluid unlike what was the case in the past.
More importantly, Havertz has followed up the change in position with excellent performances to back up Tuchel’s decision. The Blues boss has now weighed in on the matter and has revealed that the forward offers more “intensity” and “volume” to the team than the other Chelsea duo.
“He gives a lot of intensity and he’s involved in goals. What he gives us is huge volume. He covers a lot of metres, he covers a lot of metres in high intensity, so he finds the intensity no matter what the system the opponent defends against us, he finds intensive runs, he finds distances. This is what makes him and he uses his body more and more. He loves to create overloads and half-spaces and this is what he gives. It’s just his style of play, his characteristic as a player.”
A hint from the boss?
Our attack has never looked to be at its best, as there were always some areas that needed significant improvements throughout this season. Despite the poor first-half display, Havertz, alongside Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, played really well in the final 45 minutes against the Clarets.
Havertz is really intelligent with his play, creating spaces, making runs and setting up teammates. The Blues manager could finally have found his best-attacking setup for the remainder of the season.
That being said, this can be interpreted as a warning to Werner and Lukaku to step up their game. While both of them helped us see off Luton Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup, the level needs to be raised even further if they hope to receive regular game time.

Hopefully, Tuchel’s admission will push the Chelsea duo to find their best form, which in turn will help us in the end. If Havertz keeps performing and improving at this rate, we could finally see the £71million we paid in transfer fees to Bayer Leverkusen giving us the expected return.
After all, the 22-year-old has always been decisive for us in big games. As long as he translates that consistency to performing week in, week out, the Blues will have a real player on their hands.
