Transfer News: Chelsea’s scouts monitoring boyhood Blues fan as defensive target

Transfer News: Chelsea target move for Wolves centre-back Max Kilman

According to talkSPORT (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have identified Wolves centre-back Max Kilman as a potential transfer target for the near future. He is a childhood Blues fan and could be in line for a move to Stamford Bridge moving forward.

Thomas Tuchel’s side has sent scouts to assess Kilman’s profile in recent weeks. They are contemplating their options at the moment ahead of the summer transfer window. It is still unknown whether they would officially put in a bid after this season amidst the risk of a potential centre-back crisis.

The 24-year-old has been a regular for Wolverhampton Wanderers this campaign and has proven his worth more than enough times with his impressive displays. As such, Bruno Lage has selected him in the starting lineup in every single Premier League game so far.

Who is Max Kilman?

Primarily a centre-back, the Englishman can also play as a left-back if his services are needed in that position. A left-footed defender, he is versatile and can play in a three at the back system or four-man defensive line. His profile does seem suitable for us, considering Tuchel uses a 3-man centre-back set-up.

The Premier League star has made 28 appearances this season and has earnedย 11 clean sheetsย across all competitions. Lage’s side’s success so far this term is largely down to how good their defence has been, which is only second to Manchester City in the league. With 18 goals conceded, they are tied with us as a result and are in contention to make it into the Champions League places.

The Wolves ace’s contribution in the backline has played a major role in doing so, making him an exciting prospect for the Blues. He is also just 24, which gives him ample time before really reaching the peak of his powers.

Those who have watched him play would attest to the fact that Kilman is a solid defender who isn’t a shabby presence in possession as well. Having done well for a top team like Wolves, it is clear that he is ready to make the step to a footballing giant such as Chelsea.

Since Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta have less than six months left on their current deal, we must prepare for the worst-case scenario. Kilman can offer us a solution, and his experience playing in England would certainly be of help in slitting into the squad instantly.
