Former Chelsea academy graduate eyeing Stamford Bridge return

Transfer News: AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham wants Chelsea return

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport [Print Edition] via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham is eager to return to Chelsea through a potential transfer in the future. He has enjoyed a successful first season in Italy so far and has quickly adapted to his new environment in Rome.

Abraham had left Stamford Bridge to move to Roma last summer for a fee of £34million for his services. He has certainly proven his worth under the former Blues manager Jose Mourinho in his first campaign with the Italian club. He has scored 18 goals and made four assists this term from 34 appearances across all competitions so far.

The Champions League holders did include a £68million buy-back option into the deal, which will become active only after another year. Their current stance on a potential move is unknown at this point, but it will be interesting to see how this situation develops moving forward.

Abraham to return to Chelsea?

While some fans may disagree, the 24-year-old was impressive during his time with us. He has played 82 matches throughout his time with us and has scored 30 goals and 12 assists across all competitions. He could have reached greater heights had he been afforded proper time and guidance, but unfortunately, that was not the case.

Considering how Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have struggled to put the ball in the net, one could question whether it was the right decision to sell Abraham. After all, the Seria forward has been better than both our centre-forward options since teaming up with Mourinho.

It remains to be seen if the Italian club would entertain an offer before the buy-back clause’s activation. But looking from their perspective, it would not make sense to sell a talented option like Abraham after buying him recently. As such, we would probably have to wait for another year before making our move.

One thing that could cause doubts is the Englishman’s own words regarding the exit from Chelsea. The attacker had revealed that he does not regret leaving his former club, which could further question the integrity of this piece of news. Only time will tell whether this is true or not as we near the summer transfer window.

We would gladly accept Abraham back into our squad, looking at how he has fared so far in Italy. If Werner and Lukaku fail to find their feet moving forward, the club could be forced to assess that option in the future. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
