Tuchel delivers verdict on Abramovich statement as Chelsea trustees yet to agree with Russian owner

Thomas Tuchel delivers verdict as Chelsea trustees yet to agree with Roman Abramovich

Thomas Tuchel has given his thoughts on the statement provided by Roman Abramovich as Chelsea trustees have not accepted the proposal just yet. There has been a lot of controversy regarding this subject after Russia declared war and invaded Ukraine recently.

Russian billionaire Abramovich had released a statement on Saturday which mentioned that the trustees would take over control of the club. He would still have remained as the Blues’ owner going by the declaration- a move heavily criticised for his failure to mention the cause of the stance.

Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t Dan Kilpatrick, Chief football correspondent of Evening Standard), Tuchel has conveyed that the decision from the club chief would not change anything regarding the sporting side of things. The coach added that he maintains contact with Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia, and his first-team business would go around as usual.

“I think it will change nothing for me on a daily basis. That’s how I understand it. I’m in close contact with Marina & Petr Cech to run the first team… I think [our ability to win football matches] will not change with the news.”

According to Sky Sports, the Blues trustees have not taken control of the club as they are unsure whether their action would follow the UK charity law or not. That has raised uncertainty regarding the future with a meeting being held on the subject on Sunday. The lawyers are currently at work to see if they would be legally complying with the laws in such a case.

A solution soon enough?

It was disappointing to see our club chief choosing to ignore the situation that is going on in Ukraine. Perhaps it is his links to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, which caused him to follow such a route. Even with that, war is not the answer to anything, as it has shown us countless times that in the end, there are no winners- just losers.

People lose their livelihood, loved ones and their lives for nothing. All it does is create unrest and destabilize the lives of countless people throughout the globe, and it is important that we as global citizens always overtly express our stance against such senseless activity.

It seems that Abramovich made that decision to make sure that the London based club would not suffer any blows if the Government does end up seizing his assets in the future. That is a possibility due to his supposed ties with Putin, for which we could be dealt consequences.

The club eventually made another statement to rectify Abramovich’s mistake. That does make it slightly better, but there is still the question of whether we would suffer due to this situation or not. We are hopeful that the club as a whole would be strongly against what is going on in Ukraine, even if the chief has connections with Putin.

Let’s hope that the trustees can find a solution soon enough to prevent us from being on the receiving end of something which no sensible Chelsea would support in the first place. Tuchel has made it clear that day-to-day activities will remain the same, but he would be of little help if the Government interferes.

It’s wise to keep a close eye on this situation as it could really affect the future of our club, at least in the coming years. The image of the club is also at stake and we must carefully address this situation with Abramovich to make sure miscommunication and misunderstandings don’t hamper Chelsea’s reputation in the process.
