Report: Chelsea considering parting ways with penalty shootout hero ahead of next season

Chelsea open to parting ways with Kepa Arrizabalaga next summer for the right amount

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are contemplating selling Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer transfer window provided the right bid comes in. The Spaniard is enjoying a resurgence under Thomas Tuchel and has excelled while deputising for Edouard Mendy of late.

The Blues are preparing themselves to receive an offer for Kepa as they believe he could have a greater role as a starter elsewhere. They are expecting a bid from one of the La Liga heavyweights next summer and would be open to letting him leave for the right price.

Thomas Tuchel’s side believes that the 27-year-old has done more than enough to make his case as a starter for the Spanish national team. Perhaps, that could have influenced their opinion on parting ways with the shot-stopper in the summer.

Do we need to?

Ideally, we would not want to reduce the quality in our team and, having two excellent options in between the posts is always good for us. However, it is understandable on the club’s part if they decide to sell the Spaniard and recoup some of the £71.6million we paid to Atheltic Bilbao for his services.

Moreover, it is claimed that the Premier League ace could decide to move elsewhere in search of a fresh challenge in his career. His decision could be influenced by Tuchel as it is stated that the boss could pick Mendy ahead of him for the Club World Cup final against Palmeiras tomorrow.

Should that happen, that could be the final nail in the coffin as the former Athletic Club man would at least want to feature in all the cup competitions. After all, he did his part in ensuring we reached the showpiece event.

The Spain international currently earns around £155,000-per-week in wages, which is not feasible for a second choice goalkeeper. So we could give the club a pass on their decision as they may think that an upcoming superstar could be suited better to that role of an understudy.

It remains to be seen how this situation would pan in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window. But we could get a glimpse of what’s to come tomorrow from the German coach’s decision based on this update.
