Transfer News: Derby County left-back Dylan Williams set to join Chelsea

According to the Mirror, Derby Country have accepted an offer from Chelsea for the transfer of left-back Dylan Williams.

Dylan Williams is the product of the impressive academy structure at Derby County. The 18-year-old has had a few outings in the Championship in this campaign, but he is yet to become a vital squad member. However, the youngster has shown promising signs and could become a quality wing-back moving forward.

And it seems like Chelsea have taken a liking to him and are set to complete a transfer for him in the coming days.

Chelsea’s left-back dilemma is no secret to anyone after Ben Chilwell’s long-term setback. It was clear that the Blues would want a quality left-back to take over the mantle for the remainder of the season.

But with not long left in the current window, the only significant reinforcement that the Blues have secured is Kenedy. It is believed that Chelsea saw their transfer bid for Williams accepted by Derby.

Williams to Chelsea?

Rams boss Wayne Rooney confirmed that a fee has been agreed with a PL club and suggested he wouldn’t become a barrier if the youngster chooses to leave. Maybe, the youngster has eyed a golden opportunity to come in at Stamford Bridge and make a name for himself.

“We’ve agreed a fee with a Premier League club for Dylan Williams – I couldn’t stand in the way of his opportunity.”

Growing injury issues have ravaged Chelsea’s spectacular season. Even though we have faced a significant setback in the Premier League title race, our team is still competing for major domestic and European titles. But if our recent performances are anything to go by, we need to improve if we want to end this season with silverware.

Williams hasn’t played much top-flight football, so having significant demands from him doesn’t make sense. He might not be an instant help, but the 18-year-old could have a long-term future at the club. He would also bolster Thomas Tuchel’s current options and may well be an extra pair of legs to play down the left-hand side.

Of course, the news will only gain full validity once we have official confirmation from either of the clubs or the player himself. And it remains to be seen if or when that announcement comes.
