Chelsea have rejected Juve’s approach to sign 26-year-old midfielder

Transfer News: Chelsea have rejected Juventus’ approach to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek

According to Football.London, Juventus have seemingly seen their attempt to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek ‘knocked back’ by Chelsea as they are still on the lookout for Arthur Melo’s replacement if the Brazilian is to leave for Arsenal.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek played a crucial role in the midfield after the injury to Chelsea’s first-choice midfielders N’Golo Kanté and Mateo Kovačić. The academy graduate performed well before contracting the coronavirus and subsequently losing his spot within the team.

With three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions, his productivity may look hazy in a tangible sense, but his influence has been prominent when playing centrally.

Juventus were believed to be interested in Ruben Loftus-Cheek as an alternative for Arthur Melo, who was linked with Arsenal in the current transfer window. However, it is thought that Chelsea may well have rejected the Old Lady’s approach for the 26-year-old since they are still on the lookout for a replacement before letting Arthur join the Gunners.

Future for RLC at Chelsea?

Chelsea’s midfield has suffered many injuries and covid-related issues in this campaign. Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho spent a lot of time sidelined, creating massive problems for Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Amid such a situation, the Blues suffered significant setbacks that have seen us drop to third in the league table.

Chelsea’s summer reinforcement Saúl Ñíguez hasn’t been at his best since arriving at Stamford Bridge. Ross Barkley has also failed to impress, and for that reason, Loftus-Cheek may well have a role at Chelsea, especially when it comes to squad depth for cup games.

While being a benchwarmer is not what a 26-year-old would have aimed for himself at this point in his career, Chelsea still provides a pedestal for him to impress other top clubs so they can swoop in for him. A club like Juventus showing interest in the Englishman is a significant indication of just how well noticed he is across Europe.

It remains to be seen what his long-term future at Chelsea is. But for now, if we did knock back Juve’s approach for RLC and damaged Arsenal’s hopes of landing Arthur in the process, then it certainly comes as a piece of news that would bring a smile on the faces of the Blues faithful.
