Chelsea wary of PL rivals as uncertainly looms over superstar’s future at the Bridge

Chelsea wary of Manchester City as uncertainty looms over the future of Romelu Lukaku

According to La Repubblica (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are fearful that Manchester City’s financial backing could become a problem to keep hold of Romelu Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku has been the headliner in the past few days. The Belgian international gave an interview a few weeks back to Sky Italia, and the discussion was published in the last week. The 28-year-old said that Thomas Tuchel is using different tactics, and he is not enjoying his spell at the club.

The former Inter Milan star added that he would be open to an exit move in his peak years. The interview has created significant controversy and put his future at Stamford Bridge in danger.

In the press conference after the Liverpool match, Thomas Tuchel revealed that they would have a meeting to decide the future of Lukaku. But, it seems the club hierarchy has other plans.

It is believed that Blues director Marina Granovskaia has no intentions of selling the forward star who joined them in the summer for a club-record fee of £97.5million

However, Chelsea understands only Manchester City have the kind of financial backing to lure Lukaku. If the scheduled meeting goes against Lukaku, the player could be eyeing a new home, and Pep Guardiola’s club might rejuvenate their interest in the striker they targeted in the summer.

Lukaku is still yet to display his top-notch form at Stamford Bridge. The 28-year-old provided some match-winning performances; however, his overall impact remains low. But, the drop in form could be an effect of his adaptation issues with new tactics, and with time the problem could be eliminated.

Lukaku indeed has made a mistake, but Chelsea will be foolish to sell him to a direct rival like Manchester City. Decisive action needs to be taken against the Belgian star. But, Blues currently require him, and it remains to be seen how far Thomas Tuchel and co. takes the issue.
