Chelsea could try their cards to beat London rivals for 25-year-old PL star

Chelsea could battle Tottenham Hotspur for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore

According to The Football Terrace (h/t The Sun), Chelsea could battle Tottenham Hotspur to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore in the January transfer window. Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge to solve the crisis in the right wing-back role.

Reece James is currently out injured, which calls for the need to bring in reinforcement for the role. Cesar Azpilicueta is the only option currently available at the club capable of stepping in. While the Spaniard is a seasoned performer, he might not be able to play week in week out. Traore has the versatility to play in that spot, which has prompted Tuchel to ask for his services.

However, Tottenham are close to completing a transfer for £20million and are open to using Matt Doherty as a sweetener to further strengthen their attempt. They are even ready to offload Steven Bergwijn to raise funds for facilitating the potential move this month.

Antonio Conte is an admirer of the Spaniard and wants to sign him to instil more attacking quality in the right-wingback role. West Ham United are also keeping tabs on the situation, which means that it could potentially lead to a bidding war if all the suitors actively pursue him.

Traore- solid option?

The 25-year-old is famed for his ability to beat players with ease while possessing the speed and strength to brush off defenders with ease. His qualities make him a good option for us to target this month, but he also has a major issue in his arsenal. His final product has room for improvement and is often disappointing at times.

The Wolves forward has featured in 21 games this season across all competition but is yet to score a goal or make an assist. It would be a cause of concern looking at the impact James has made this season for us. If we are signing someone to replicate his output, we should be looking elsewhere.

But if the German boss believes that the Spanish international can be improved through proper guidance, we should try to back him in any way possible. But things would not be easy since Spurs have already registered their interest and are ahead of us in the transfer race.

That puts us in a tight spot since we could face an uphill battle in the coming days if we actively decide to pursue him in the winter transfer window. Let’s hope that we can get this in the bag and short focus on the matters on the field.
