“Stranger things have happened”- Former PL ace backs under-fire rival ace to jump ship to Chelsea

Carlton Cole believes Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could join Chelsea

According to Stadium Astro, Carlton Cole suggested that Chelsea could be the destination for out of favour Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League over the past few seasons. The Gabon international started the 2021/22 campaign in good form and currently has seven goals and two assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.

The 32-year-old has been one of the most important players for the Gunners in recent times. Unfortunately, his recent antics have seen him not only stripped of the captaincy but also have his game time curtailed.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has taken a stance against the Gabon international and continues to overlook him when picking the starting 11. Whether this means the end of Aubameyang’s time at the Emirates remains to be seen.

The lack of game time at Arsenal could push the Gabon striker towards an exit. But to do so, he will need to find a new home and Carlton Cole has a theory. The Former Chelsea striker suggested that a move to Stamford Bridge makes sense looking at the current requirement of Thomas Tuchel’s team.

“If you look at it, Chelsea is in need of a striker as well. Imagine that, you never know, stranger things have happened. It’s still London, do you know what I mean?”

Cole further added that the Dortmund connection of Aubameyang and Thomas Tuchel could make the transfer successful. The duo struck the right chord during their stint together at Borussia Dortmund.

“Look at the history. Dortmund, Tuchel, Aubameyang, they know each other, and he knows what he gets out of him.”

The Chelsea forwards are having a poor season. Even though the club-record signing Romelu Lukaku has netted a decent number of goals, he still lacks consistency. To make matters worse, Timo Werner has also failed to show any consistent form. Both of them also suffered injuries and were sidelined for several weeks.

Thomas Tuchel pushed Kai Havertz to play the centre forward role even though that’s not the ideal position for the German. To cover up the spaces.

On top of that, Lukaku’s controversial interview has put his Chelsea future in danger. Thomas Tuchel still hasn’t guaranteed his stay at the club, and the German manager could take a similar stance as Arteta in handling the situation.

Therefore, the requirement of a striker has become essential for the team, and Aubameyang would be a great addition to the side. With years of Premier League experience and goalscoring expertise, he could have an immediate impact.

But it is improbable that a club like Arsenal would sell one of their best strikers to a direct city rival. Therefore, the possibility of the transfer looks very slim. Whether a Robin van Persie esque situation is in the works remains to be seen.
